Psalm 116:7
Return to your rest, my soul, for the Lord has been good to you.
I love the word “return” here. To me it isn’t a word implying a salvation-seeking repentance after a wayward spree of sin. It’s not a prodigal’s son return.
It’s the daily discipline of reminding myself of God’s faithfulness. Every morning when I come to the couch in the loft at daybreak to be alone with Jesus, I’m returning to my rest, a much deeper rest that I could get if I hit “snooze” on the alarm clock. Placing the Lord’s goodness back in the rightful place, if it has shifted behind other concerns in the past 24 hours. Pushing the “reset” button, back to the “factory settings”…recalibrating to this truth: God is good, and I am his.
